Once your transport network is set up, adding the timetable to a page is quick. It's a block, so you can add it anywhere in the CMS that you can add blocks. Guests pick their visit date and see the services running that day, grouped by route with the departure and arrival times at each stop.
This guide assumes your lines, routes, services and timetables are already set up. If not, start with the planning checklist and setup video first.
Choose your layout
There are two layouts, and you can switch between them at any time.
- Date picker: Leads with the timetable, with a smaller control for guests to change the date. Good if you want the times front and centre.
- Calendar: Guests choose their date from a visual calendar, then see the timetable for that day. It works in a similar way to the Opening Times calendar, so it will look familiar. It also shows your special event indicators.
Step by step
- Add the block. On your page, click Add content and search for "transport" or "timetable". Choose the block.
- Add a title and intro text. These are the only options when you first add the block. They sit above the timetable.
- Open the settings. Click the cog on the block to set everything else.
- Choose your line. Select the line you want to show.
- Choose your layout. Switch between Date picker and Calendar.
- Adjust the other options. You can show or hide the line title, or change the date the timetable starts on. The rest are the standard block settings.
- Publish and check. Try a few dates to make sure the right services show.
What guests will see
The timetable is grouped by route, for example Entrance to North Pole and North Pole to Entrance, with each service shown as a column. Each column shows the departure and arrival times at every stop for the date they've chosen. It's built for mobile first, so guests can scroll across on smaller screens.
Fixing common issues
Service names look too long. The service name appears at the top of each timetable column, so a long name looks messy. Keep it short, such as "7pm" rather than a full description. To change it, go to your transport network in the settings, open the transport services, edit the name, then save and publish.
Nothing shows for a date. If there's no timetable for the date a guest chooses, the block will be empty. There are two things to check:
- Add a message. On your transport network, you can set a "no timetable results" message so guests see something helpful instead of a blank space.
- Check your timetable dates. Go to the transport network, open the line, then the timetables. The dates may have run out or expired.
Tips
- Use one page per line, so guests land on the right timetable straight away.
- Keep service names short and clear.
- Check your timetable dates regularly, especially at the start of a new season.
- Try both layouts on a test page and see which suits your guests best.
