We focused mainly on pagespeed improvements, bug fixes and optimisations ahead of the Easter holidays, as well as a number of new features.
New features
- New download listing block for showing media and downloads. Great for educational hubs or campaigns
- Multiple email send settings in a single Umbraco site. For multi-brand sites, you can now set up several "from" email address domains and the matching SMTP (outgoing email) settings. This means forms on each brand's website can send emails from that brand's own domain, rather than a single shared domain. This needs Mailgun (an email sending service) set up for each domain, and the multi-domain forms workflow
- Reverse proxy functionality: a number of changes so a LOOP site can sit behind another domain and look like part of an existing website
- "Open/Close all" controls can be enabled on the Expanders and FAQ blocks (demo)
- Tab section block updates:
- Stacked content: a new option to "stack" tab content, creating a continuous scroll layout where the active tab updates as you scroll (example)
- Auto-centre nav: a new option so the navigation bar moves the active link towards the centre
- Canonical page: a new "lower blocks" editor appears underneath the listing, so you can add extra content to canonical pages
Pagespeed optimisations
We regularly review site performance and updated numerous technical areas in this release, with more planned in the months to come:
- Optimised the hero image source sets and HTML
- Delayed the Lightwidget Instagram feed load until it enters the viewport
- Deferred various form and validation scripts
- Set the correct aspect ratio for image crops in PanelSection
- Fixed minimum width values for many image entries
- Optimised "signpost panel" image sizes
- Code performance improvement for app.js
- Smaller "image icon" source sets
Bug fixes
- Site stability: fixed a rare issue that could cause a page or entire site to become unavailable. This affected a small number of edge cases and is now fully resolved
- Wide Panel links: fixed an error that occurred when a Wide Panel was linked to a page that had not yet been published
- Hero spacing: removed unwanted blank space beneath the hero area when no hero content was set, or when hero content was hidden
- 404 error pages for multi-sites: fixed an issue where the wrong 404 page was shown on sites using Global Landing Pages. 404 pages are now set directly in Site Settings within the CMS (client request)
Minor updates
- Vimeo embeds now have the parameter "dnt=true" to limit the number of cookies used when embedded
- YouTube embeds now use the www.youtube-nocookie.com domain to limit the number of cookies used when embedded
- Review repository folders: reviews can now be grouped into folders to make management easier, for example "Schools reviews", "Weddings reviews" or "Day visitors"
- News listing page theming options: you can now set themes for the filter section and the news listing items, for both the News Listing and Global News Listing
- Event dates layout: new option to show or hide the "More dates" toggle. This can be set on specific events and applies to the event page and event listing panel dates (client request)
- Image captions can now be added to images on items in the Timeline block (client request)
