Showing Value #3 - Seasonal Events & Programming

Seasonal events give people a reason to visit now, and a reason to come back. They are also some of the best chances you have to win search traffic, but only if your website has the right content to match. This guide covers why they matter and the main steps to get them right. For the detailed how-to, follow the links to the related guides at the end.

Why seasonal events matter

Most attractions have key promotional periods through the year. Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and other holidays are natural chances to attract new customers and increase sales. People also search for them in a very specific way, such as "things to do at Halloween near me", often with the year included.

Special events and limited-time programming also add value to a visit and give guests a reason to book on a particular date, without needing to discount.

The question is whether your website is ready for those searches.

Step 1: Find your seasonal content gaps

You probably know which times of year matter most to your business. For many, it's Christmas. Ask yourself: do I have enough content on my website to promote these periods?

If you run special products and events at Christmas, for example, you should have one dedicated (and consistent) Christmas page. Make it the go-to master page for everything Christmas at your attraction, so it targets the important Christmas search terms.

Step 2: Improve the content you already have

Once you know the gaps, create any new pages you need and improve existing ones. Make sure seasonal pages are set up for search engines and engaging for guests:

  • Put the relevant keywords in the page title, the main heading (H1) and the intro copy.

  • Write clear content about what you offer. Are there events for children? Say so, to help you rank for "things to do with kids" at that time of year.

  • Show different opening times on the page, as well as on your normal opening times page.

  • Include prices, dates, what's on and a clear book button.

Step 3: Keep the same web address every year

If you're creating a seasonal page for the first time, don't put the year in the web address. It will be out of date next year, and you'll have to start again.

  • Avoid: yourattraction.com/christmas-2026/

  • Use: yourattraction.com/christmas/

Change the page title to include the year instead, because many seasonal searches include it. Using the same page every year and updating it lets it build search credibility over time.

Step 4: Include your location

You are very unlikely to rank for "christmas events 2026". Something like "christmas events [your town or county] 2026" is far more realistic and much better targeted. Mention your local area in your seasonal pages and content.

Step 5: Promote off your website too

  • List your seasonal events and promotions on your Google Business Profile.

  • Look for aggregator sites and bloggers who rank well for "seasonal event + location". Ask them to feature you. If you're nowhere near ranking for those terms yourself, this can open up a new stream of traffic.

  • Increasingly Reddit is becoming a key area for attractions to contribute to drive AI and AEO search.

A real example

Halloween is a busy time for most visitor attractions, and an especially big one for one of our clients. When we first looked at their site, they had a single page listing a couple of events, with no written content at all.

We added content to the page. We included "events" and local terms in the page title, the main heading and the intro text, and wrote new content that mentioned the location in the context of Halloween events. The page then reached the first page of results for things to do at Halloween in their area, and began ranking for many related searches. Organic traffic rose 330% compared with the previous year, after two flat years.

After the season ends

Don't delete your seasonal pages. Keep them live and update them for next year. This protects your search rankings and keeps your content fresh. Don't remove the page or wipe out the content.
