Security Recommendations

Data and security is a critical area for any business online. At Semantic we treat logins and client data with the utmost care and it is important that you and your team are following best practices.

Please treat your website login (and any systems you use to access the CMS) with the same level of diligence as you would a banking login.

Login security

  • Use STRONG passwords — 25 characters or more, non-dictionary words, a mixture of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
  • Do not share passwords between services — use unique login details on each service.
  • If you become aware a password has been compromised, reset it and alert us urgently.
  • Use a password manager to keep passwords secure, unique and hard to break.
  • Use 2-factor or multi-factor authentication on key services. This is available in LOOP and we recommend all clients have it enabled.

System security

  • Make sure your devices are secure and up-to-date.
  • Use virus software and make sure firewalls are enabled.
  • Ensure your browser and core software is updated and set to auto-update.
  • Ensure your wifi/network is secure and that you have a secure connection (via https).

Mindful computing

  • Be aware of phishing attempts and never share personal data or login information.
  • Do NOT believe any email asking you to login or supply login details.
  • Treat all emails, calls or contacts with scepticism, especially if you can't verify their identity or they're asking for personal data.
  • Be aware that AI can be used to impersonate voices, sender email addresses and more — if something seems 'off' it probably is.
  • Email is not secure, so send any sensitive files or information over an encrypted channel or shared drive.
